I apologize for not having kept up with my reading for some time now, March is the month of madness for my better half and I with our business having shows every week of the month. That's just eaten up any spare time that I've had, but come April I should start catching up and posting again.

I have also had quite a bit of madness in the form of Real Life recently. I have been reading the book, but I've no idea how much of it I should have read by now or whether I've read more or less than had been planned!

Don't worry about whether you are up to everyone else, just post your thoughts on it. Heck until the other day I was several chapters behind. I had a slow day at work, and a pen, and read and notated in the margins of the book.(I know I know heretical.)

Heretic! Hmm, just doesn't sound as good as when my baptist buddy points and declares "Heeeeeeathen!", like that's somehow a bad thing? Note: he does this in jest.
Once I return from my working vacation I ought to have a thing or two to say about the book, so as moonwolf23 said, just post what you think about it as far as you can read into it. We may all catch up to each other in the end.

I just finished the book, as it happens. I did quite enjoy it, and there was a lot of common sense things in there. I was less interested in the chapters on personal gnosis and group work, but that's mostly because I'm solitary, and groups aren't really relevant to my practice. Nevertheless, I felt there was good solid information and guidelines there for groups that might need it.
The earlier chapters, particularly on discernment and gnosis I found particularly interesting. I've got my own ways of dealing with that, but it's always nice to read a different perspective, perhaps one that's more cohesive and nuanced. I know I don't use divination for discernment, because I've never come across a time when I've needed to. It's probably not a bad habit to pick up, though, given I'm more on the UPG side of reconstructionism these days.
Overall, it's a good solid book. I can't find any particular fault with it, but that might just be me.

I did find it to be practical advice, but a little to heavy on asking others, and on divination.

I would be interested in how you do discernment vs the chapter. I did find it to be practical advice, but a little to heavy on asking others, and on divination. Yeah, the emphasis on divination and asking countless others for advice on UPG did seem a little OTT when compared to my practices, but I'm not going to rubbish it as it's useful advice for those who need those layers of separation. Not all of us do. Maybe I've just honed my bullshit radar over the years. Maybe it's because I don't have a godphone, so I have less to pick through. I don't really know. I mostly just rely on instinct, and perhaps I'll do some research to see if there's anything there. Very rarely do I do any divination. I think I might also have honed that ability to know my own mental voice, and when the gods are throwing words down into my head. I think that helps. But yeah. If I had some sort of major UPG moment where I was told something that had the potential to completely change the way I practice, then yes, I would check with others, and divine the heck out of it. But for most of what I get, it's not at that sort of scale, and my discernment skills are perfectly capable of dealing with it. But, I mean, like I said, there's some good advice in there if you need it. I think it's good to be reminded that we can't always be as objective as we need to be in sorting out UPG, and so maybe asking others and divining the outcome are useful tools in that regard. Maybe I wouldn't use them for everything, but maybe someone else needs those kind of checks and balances in their practice. I don't know. Just because it's not right for me doesn't make it wrong.
